If My Flower Could Talk

Accessory Whore - Whore StoriesMy friend Pammer, over at Accessory Whore, yes, you heard me, that is the name of one of her blogs, asked me to write a story.  And this was not just any story, it was to be a ‘Whore Story.’

You see my friends, Pammer is a magnificent woman, she is beauty personified and she knows fashion, in ways that I could not even begin to understand.  She rocks a room in just blue jeans and a top…with of course her ACCESSORIES!  No, not the over the top, unnecessary type that you wish people would have never put on, but the type that you look at and think, “Damn, why can’t I pull that off!”  You see though, our accessories, like our clothing, is a reflection of who we are and the more closely it reflects us, the real us, the more comfortably we wear it.  And when we are comfortable in our own skin and our own clothes and yes, our own accessories, we ROCK IT!

Accessory Whore is a great site with great insight on where to get ANY kind of accessory…for you, for your husband/boyfriend, for your home, for your gadgets, you name it!  It is a great idea, from a great lady!

Anywhoooo, Pam has a spot on her site where people share stories, and you know I love stories.  They are called Whore Stories and are about a special piece of jewelry or something that has sentimental value to you.  I wrote a story for her about my favorite necklace…my flower necklace and all the places it has been with me!

Skip on over and give my ‘Whore Story‘ a read…and take some time to find your best accessories while your there!  I am wearing my ‘Flower’ in these photos!

    Jorja,
I stopped by here last evening, but after reading your post and visiting Pammer’s blog I realized that you weren’t finished telling your story! I decided I would come back this morning. I am glad I did. I love your photos and your “whore story.”
What touches me about your flower is that it is made from wood – I remember once being with my children in New York City. I think we were in the Museum of Natural History’s gift store. They wanted a souvenir, so you know you think about buying a key chain or something like that, but my little one looked up at me (he was about six) and he said: “Momma, I only want some thing that has been alive!”
Not many items fit that bill when you are shopping in a souvenir store…but he found some sea shells and he knew intuitively that they once held and protected life!
Wood – the tree of life, drift wood on a shore, such beautiful symbols. You are like your wooden flower, absorbing what life brings to you and giving back to those around you. Empowering and Empowerment!

On a side note, the other day you mentioned that you would work on adding an archive feature to your blog. That makes me happy. Today Julien Smith published a post and he has now released a free WordPress plug-in, so that you can add an archive page like his. You can read about it here. Have a good blog? You need a good archive.
    Have a great weekend.
    Judy

why i write this blog ~

I write to help other women know and value their authentic selves and to help them move towards contributing with passion to their worlds!

I believe women are the greatest life-givers in our society, yet many women, by mid-life, have fallen prey to losing themselves in the roles and expectations of their families, cultures and inner critics. They have lost their way and I believe, a true sense of self and ability to use their voices. Eleanor Roosevelt said that she believes we decide who we really are and then live with that decision.
I write with a two-fold purpose: to document my journey of learning and owning my true self and how it impacts my life, and to help other women do the same. I am not one who as arrived, but a fellow traveler. As I write, I hope my vulnerability connects me with others as they see their hopes, their foibles, their fears and aspirations in my story. And as we learn, and come to value our voices, we are not turned inward, but, on the contrary, we will become more connected to those around us.
Women who are able to learn, value and contribute are women who are living beyond the pale!

things to make you wonder~

“I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am aging and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead am wondering awed about on a splintered wreck I've come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe a delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty bats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them...” Annie Dillard
